Lost Demos humbly describe themselves as Waitakere's premiere psychedelic swamp-folk, alt-country act. Created in the West Auckland seaside studio of musician and composer Peter Hobbs (guitar, vocals, stompbox) the band line-up is ever-changing. This gig includes Jon Baxter (trumpet and general pandemonium) Puck Murphy (banjo, accordion) and Jesse Griffin (drums).
Their 4-track EP Viva Lost Demos is the first band release in 17 years for musician Peter Hobbs (Kitset, Lesley Speaker) who creates soundtracks for screen and dance projects. His last album was with his Dunedin band Kitset, whose album, Testpot was nominated for Best Rock/Pop Release, Best New Act and Best Independent Release at the 1999 BNet NZ Music Awards. Lost Demos will be playing songs from their new EP as well as music from Hobb's upcoming concept album about the Maungatapu murders (a Nick Cave-esque obsession with the incredible story of the Burgess gang murders in 1866).
Ocean Beach perform crunchy punk folk with a shimmering resonance. Singer and guitarist Gary Dalhousie (Jetty) drummer Troy Stanton-Kerr (Pointy Little Stick amongst many others) and Robert Halcrow on bass (The Managers, Unity Pacific) are currently in the midst of recording their first album together.
