It was called one in 100 year storm! Towns were cut off, power was out to tens of thousands around the country and in New Lynn in Auckland a giant sink hole opened up right next to a building housing local businesses and in the basement, residential tenants – namely two well known Auckland Metal Heads Abel McGeady and Josh Parbery.
This building was shown on both the national news channels and in The NZ Herald and Josh was also interviewed by the Herald outlining how the water was up to his knees and he only just got himself and his pet Rabbit out of the building in time. Fast forward a few days after not knowing when they would be allowed back in to the building, if at all, Abel and Josh were told they would have an hour to get in to their flat and get their belongings out. Once they arrived they were told they might not be allowed in at all as the building was in danger of collapsing. After waiting for a few hours they had 20 minutes to get in and out of the building to grab whatever they could – needless to say that wasn’t a lot. So this is where we come in – The New Zealand Metal Community.
On Saturday 8th of April 5 of Auckland and Waikato’s best, most brutal Death Metal, Metal Core, Punk and hardcore bands are coming together to show their support of their friends Abel and Josh in their time of need. All of these bands are donating their time for free, as is the venue, Ding Dong Lounge (where Abel also works part time while he studies) who have wiped their usual booking fee for the night. Along with the poster art work designed by Melise Alchin for free and the door staff who are also donating their time for the night. 100% of money through the door is going straight to Abel and Josh!
Scaphist (Official) – Are bringing their own form of blackened death metal to Ding Dong for the very first time! It is also their first performance of the year and they have recently released a new Album ‘Sunset Acquisition’ - check it out here!

Graveless – 5 Piece Metalcore band from Auckland. After releasing an EP last year called ‘Chapters’ (which is available on their facebook page) they have been playing extensively in Auckland capturing Audiences with their powerful live show.

Team Kill – Are ‘unofficially, officially’ on hiatus from live shows while they work on their next Album but have decided to break out for one show in support of their metal brothers in Auckland. Team Kill is a band every metal head in NZ NEEDS to see! Full of energy they put on a punishing live show! 2016 saw them play some of the larger underground festivals in New Zealand including the Brutalitees Birthday Bash in New Plymouth. I for one can’t wait to hear their new music! They have some teasers on their facebook page go over and check them out.
AcidMorph – Are a relatively new band, proudly from South Waikato who have blasted on to the scene to become of the most talked about bands from Hamilton.
Anti Matter - Anti Matter is a dance punk duo that put on dynamic live shows. They are an eclectic mix of mix of rap, shouting, melodic singing with distorted guitar and dance beats and riffs. Influences include Nine Inch Nails, Lights and Twenty One Pilots. And they are making waves.
Fresh on the scene with only a handful of gigs, Anti Matter wild carded their way to the Battle of The Bands finals, winning the judges over with their unique dance punk sound. As vocalist Courtney says:
We choose to party with our inner demons.
