We are back in Hastings to rock the Common Room once again. We want your ears, money and dancing shoes! Only 10 measly dollars on the door for one of New Zealand's best dressed, sweetest sounding and most punctual bands!
The Frank Burkitt Band have become one of New Zealand’s finest string bands, and their style can best be described as ‘Acoustic Swing.' Drawing influence from American roots music and artists such as The Wood Brothers, Pokey LaFarge and Nina Simone, Burkitt’s entertaining and occasionally rambling anecdotes give audiences a chance to really relate to his songs. The originality of the songs stand out, and the arrangements will keep your ears purring!
They are:
- Frank Burkitt (vocals, guitar).
- Kara Filbey (vocals, percussion).
- Cameron Dusty Burnell (mandolin, tenor banjo).
- James Geluk (double bass).
What is even more unbelievably exciting is that the one man band that is Oscar Laven (tenor sax, trumpet, clarinet, and trombone) will be joining the band for a few select gigs around NZ in 2017. Regularly found front of stage leading the Wellington City Shake-Em-Downers or his own big band the Neo Hot Jive Orchestra, he adds sumptuous brass and woodwind to The Frank Burkitt Band’s jazz undertones.
A marriage made in musical heaven and a night not to be missed.
“Frank Burkitt with a clear load of experience and nightclub savvy in his style. With strong songs and musicianship, his easy listening camaraderie lifted the evening to foot-tapping entertainment with a wry sense of humour and professional patter.” - Theatreview.org.nz.
