Gig Information

Seletive Yellow (Wellington)

Selective Yellow are Chris Wilson and James Noble, an
experimental improvising electronic music duo based in Wellington, drawing on New Zealand's heritage of experimental music practice. Selective Yellow performances employ a number of different synthesizers or sound generators, ranging from digital toys (Kaosscilators, Buddhamachines, littleBits), theremin to modular analogue and MIDI digital synthesizers, played with a variety of controllers (wind
controllers, monome grids, knob boxes etc).

David Chechelashvili (Auckland)

The performance explores parametric serialism in the context of modular synthesis. The work is inspired by integral serialism, a brand of serialism that applies numerical organization not only to pitch, but also to elements such as duration, dynamics, and timbre. Using integral serialism as the point of departure, a computer running a Pure Data patch communicates the output of a serial algorithm to a module within the modular system which performs digital-to-analogue conversion and outputs a set of twelve serialized control voltages to be distributed to any available CV inputs. This method has proven useful in finding modulation ‘sweet spots’ that would otherwise be left unfound. The music itself is beat-less, drone music that represents a rejection of harmonic and melodic ambitions and takes specific steps to obscure any sense of the passage of time. The intention is for the drones to eventually sharpen our modes of perception (however immeasurable) by refocusing the listener’s attention on the subtle fluctuations in timbre or pitch that accrue greater importance against an otherwise static background.

Lortcon (Auckland)

Lortcon is a experimental project based in inspired by minimalism, drone, and 80s aesthetics. I use Ableton with a few MIDI controllers, a MFB Kraftzwerg, a few modules and a Volca Bass.
