Gig Information

With a lavish helping of the exotic Eastern flavours and the meticulous production that they are known and exalted for, Tijuana Cartel triumph once again with a sonic sensation called Ishtar, and they’re about to jet across the seas to take it to the people of New Zealand.
The New Zealand tour (presented by PS Music Group) encompasses key cities of the North Island—Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington before bouncing over to the South Island for a headline slot at the eclectic Nelson Arts Festival.

Ishtar—their first release in two years—brings a generous dosing of heavy bass, haunting guitar motifs and soul smashing beats. It’s a guaranteed floor shaker destined to gratify their voluminous fanbase and no doubt charm a few more in the process.

‘We went back to our roots with this track—it features more guitar riffs, heavier bass and a heavy dance feel overall. We just wanted to create something that was unique to Tijuana Cartel. This track really embodies the essence of what we do as producers that sets us apart. Essentially we’re always seeking to create the ultimate live experience for our audience and this one sits perfectly in that space.’

It seems the Cartel have been knocking on ancient Mesopotamian doors to channel inspiration for this track. Ishtar is an ancient goddess of love, beauty, sex and war, also purported to have belonged to an elegant alien race known as the Annunaki. Folklore tells us that one day the Annunaki will return to Earth.

Ever eager to collaborate, this time Tijuana Cartel appear to have reached a little further in their quest for originality:

‘Ishtar was produced during a long night while visited by Anunnaki aliens, in our studio in Labrador on the Gold Coast. Much to our delight the alien life forms brought great sample packs and vintage Synths with them. They talked animatedly of the last time they visited earth exactly 3000 years ago and marvelled at how much the music here has changed.’
Ishtar is now available from major online retailers. An E.P. will be available exclusively in New Zealand for free download. From September 28th, the download code can be found by visiting the NZ tour dates on Facebook.
