Gig Information

The 2017 Hutt City Charity Rockfest is set to be a memorable weekend of fantastic local entertainment.

Motivated by helping those in need the Charity Rockfest run an annual event to help create awareness of the problems that we face today and raise funds for homeless causes, why? Cause we've been there, this is our way of giving back.

Homelessness has reached epic proportions in recent years and with the help of certain foundations and countless volunteers their spirit and hard work help ease some of the tension that homelessness causes. This year we want to raise funds for the DCM group who have done a phenomenal job making the word homeless obsolete for some that knew nothing but, we at the charity rockfest are honoured to be helping such a humble cause, please click on the link to know more.

DCM Wellington

DCM (formerly known as Inner City Ministry and then Downtown Community Ministry) has been working in the city of Wellington since 1969 to “focus on the needs of, and to help empower, those marginalised in the city.” (DCM Constitution) DCM has adopted the byline “together we can end homelessness in Wellington” which reflects our current focus on the needs of those less fortunate – people experiencing homelessness, or who are at risk of homelessness, supporting them on a journey towards sustainable housing and wellbeing. Over the past decade we have supported literally hundreds of people to successfully exit homelessness and create sustain housing.

Sitting in the heart of Wellington at 2 Lukes Lane on the site of Te Aro Pā, those that need help are welcomed at DCM and we make sure they feel welcomed. We're humbled by what difference we make to those who reach out.

Lets help make a difference

3.15pm - Jef Minus

2 kiwis and a scotsman walk into a pub..
sounds like a joke but it actually sounded like a foo's/greenday crossover with echoes of the police the cars the jam etc.
comfortably straddling the punk/alt rock divide they focus on punchy melody driven songs that blindside you with beefy hooks and Velcro choruses.
coupled with an energetic live show and a super tight set they are primed and ready to go!!
Jef Minus have had a busy first 6 months.
7 gigs, 6 track ep, Births, injuries, broken guitars and 16 original songs in their
energetic frenzy of a set.
with a new recording set for release in nov/dec and more festivals and gigs booked the boys are looking forward to playing there own brand of alt punk rock to a wider audience with a end of year tour of the north Island.
happy on the big stage or a small club the guys are super stoked to be playing at the hutt city charity rockfest and are humbled to help the DCM in they're quest to eliminate homelessness in wellington.
understanding the issues certainly puts things in perspective and if rocking out will help this cause then some added venom and vigour will be there for all to see.
will you join us?

5.30pm - Pale Lady

Founded in late 2016, Pale Lady consists of four rock fanatics who found themselves in the same music degree. Since then, it has been non stop writing and gigging to bring something new to Rock n Roll. Their music is diverse, with influences both from old school classics and modern rock. At a Pale Lady show you can expect to hear catchy vocal melodies, heavy riffs and guitar solos a plenty. They are playing regularly, and will be releasing new music in the near future.
The band is honoured to participate - supporting DCM in an event for such an important cause.

6.15 - Dusk Till Dawnz

Dusk Till Dawnz is an originals rock band based In Palmerston North, which has a diverse repertoire which can reach out to the younger audience’s to the older rockers as well.
Dusk Till Dawnz was formed by Jayson Harris & Steve Whittaker alongside the youngster of the group, rubix cube master William Jestin-Palmer. Guitarist Jason Waitokia joined & then vocalist Mark (Swampy) came into the mix after a brief set back due to receiving a heart transplant, recipient # 281; so he very well knows that charity starts at home. Both Steve & Swampy have worked together in a previous band.
Mark (Swampy) – Vocals, Jayson Harris- Drums, William – Bass, Jason Waitokia – Guitar, Steve Whittaker – Guitar and vocals.

Dusk Till Dawnz has 3 songs on iTunes, Spotify etc. Through Lost by Design records, currently 2 more originals are in the process of getting mixed.
Dusk Till Dawnz is starting to get a number of shows under their belt around the Palmy region as well as a stint down in the Hutt with the Jef Minus Band.

Dusk till Dawnz is chomping at the bit to get back down to the welly’s region to support an extremely
important charity event for the DCM group in aid of ending homelessness in the region.

7.15pm - Hault

Hailing from the underground rock scene in Wellington, Hault has recorded the first album of their career, combining metal, heavy rock and psychedelic influences into a pummelling sound that has rocked the Wellington region.

Taking inspiration from the biggest names in rock; Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Tool, Kings X and many more, Hault have spent the past two years perfecting and developing their sound, crushing it into an ensemble of heavy grunge rock guaranteed to destroy stereotypes of standard rock.

Whether in the studio working on new material or on the stage of Wellingtons best venues, Hault have remained devoted to delivering a performance not presently heard from original rock line ups.

The Wellington rock outfit—vocalist and guitarist Mike Cole, bassist Sean Fitzpatrick and drummer Grant Lister —not only know where they’re going, but have a rock solid history that brought them to where they are today. With the coming release of the band’s debut EP, Hault arrives with substance, style and a heaviness that captures their energy, love for great music and commitment to developing a fresh perspective on heavy rock. Hault are delighted to help support DCM and the efforts to work with the homeless of Wellington.

8.15pm - The Whiskey Show

The Whiskey Show are a hard rock band who play hard hitting, high energy rock n roll.
Hazy talks of starting a band grew from a seedy New Years Party and The Whiskey Show was spawned.
Easy as she goes is the bands mantra as they put as much effort into the good times off stage as they do kicking it into top gear on stage.
With broad list of influences spanning the decades The Whiskey Show has a varied and interesting repertoire for the discerning modern rock fan.
Having developed their sound through a few marks the current lineup packs a whollop.
In the front is Dene Patton on belting out the vocals.
Scott Finlay is on Guitar and drives the screaming solos and punchy riffs.
Keeping the rhythm section moving in Halden on bass.
Earth shaking artillery style barrages come from Will on drums.
You only need to check out their third single ‘Vengeance’ to encompass what these boys are all about.
Satire, metaphor and despair commonly present themselves through The Whiskey Shows music leaving the listener to draw their own conclusions or transport them to a different place.
Hutt City Rockfest is a great opportunity to give back something to the community an opportunity that The Whiskey Show relish.
On a serious note, homelessness is a huge problem and The Whiskey Show are proud to be involved in a venture to help the less fortunate.
We are super proud to be involved and to recognise the work DCM Charity do to get homeless people in Wellington back on their feet.

9.15pm - Burning Embers

There have been a few underground Wellington rock bands that have stood the test of time and Burning Embers is no exception.

Wild parties and wild woman, Burning Embers earned a reputation that many respect. You could write a book about the years of Burning Embers and it would surely be a best seller.

Rebel rouses like it seemed necessary. Listened to know one whether you were offering a opportunity of a lifetime or not. Burning Embers live by their own code.

After all the craziness we've landed back on our feet with more grounded songs and set goals to make sure our audience new and old get the full benefits of Burning Embers musical soul. With a fantastic line up of cultured musicians audiences are in for a treat with hints of influences like Alice in Chains, Deep Purple, STP, and the list goes on.

We let our fans decide what we sound like

We are extremely proud to be able to contribute towards a cause that is making a difference in people's lives, Dcm, we salute you.

10.15pm - Bloodshot

Metalcore / Hard Rock Band from Wellington, New Zealand.
Inspired by Periphery, Chelsea Grin, Bring Me The Horizon, Dorje, Asking Alexandria, and many more. We've got a unique sound to us that is our own. Aged from 18 - 21. Bloodshot was founded in 2010 and are going from strength to strength with their hard hitting, full impact stand outshows.

11.15pm - Strikemaster

6 months jamming in a tiny bedroom in Houghton Bay Wellington finally culminated in a set of rock/blues based material that was launched on to the Wellington pub scene. With a dynamic light show and a tight rocking/ragey set, the band quickly established a strong following, packing pubs throughout Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.

A live concert at the old Ascot theatre in Newtown was recorded by Jayrem Records which became Strikemasters first album,Good n Ready. Produced by the late Ian Morris at Marmalade Studios, the album was an acclaimed success, propelling the band on to TV appearances and a nationwide tour.
The band continued to gig and record for another 5 years, constantly writing new material. Support acts for rock legends Motorhead and Uriah Heep cemented Strikemaster as one of the top rock acts in the country.
The changing dynamic of the Wellington live music scene eventually forced the band to call it quits in the early 1990s.

All the members followed other musical pursuits and would get together to play the odd festive occasion But there was always the lingering feeling that the band had unfinished business. A wealth of material had remained unrecorded and a bond of camaraderie meant that Strikemaster would rear its head again. A request to play at The Rocks Paul Martins Axe Attack party in Auckland 2008 soon had the band jamming again and rekindled the desire to get the show back on the road 2012 has seen the band back in the practice rooms, writing a batch of new material and honing favourites from the past. The unfinished business is to be completed. A quality studio album is the bands priority.
