Rattled by the bones of convicts and steeped in campfire
smoke, Bush Gothic perform darker, stranger Australian folk.
Defiantly modern, achingly old, this most daring of
Australian bush bands perform songs of criminal women and
desperate men from an era of transportation, adventure and
gold.
The Guardian described band leader and fiddle-singer
Jenny M. Thomas as an ‘Edgy rising folk star’ and together
with double bassist Dan Witton and drummer Chris Lewis
they are touring Ireland, England, New Zealand and
Australia.
A collection of popular Australian folk songs, The Natural
Selection Australian Songbook earned a 5 star review in BBC
Music Magazine plus Runner Up for fRoots Album of the
Year 2016. Embracing the oldest of stories and caressing the
most mournful of tales, Bush Gothic re-imagine songs of
heartbreak and tragedy amongst convicts, desperate miners
and criminal women. This album revels in the challenge of
taking the unfashionable and making it beautiful again.
All three members of the band have toured the world with a
long list of internationally acclaimed music and theatre
ensembles including Circus Oz , Sydney Symphony Orchestra
and The Australian Opera but this is the first time they bring
Bush Gothic to New Zealand.
