Join us at MEOW for an intimate evening of songs and stories by some of New Zealand's finest songwriters!
The evening's songwriters include:
EMILY FAIRLIGHT
-----
Emily Fairlight is a poet and a songwriter.
She describes her own music style as introspective alternative folk, written with a rock 'n' roll heart. Others have compared her sound to Natalie Merchant, P.J. Harvey, Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) and Cat Power.
Her voice ranges from the most intimate of whispers to the strongest of wails, delivering beautiful and honest lyrics with heartfelt melodies.
FINN JOHANSSON
-----
Finn Johansson has been ebbing and flowing around the Wellington and European music scenes for a little while now, & after numerous band tours and bands Johnsonville City Nights, The Boxcar Rattle and Tommy and the Fallen Horses, radio/TV appearances and session work has released his debut album.
If you like handmade, electrical music and you like to laugh while feeling sad, then this is the ticket.
LOST BiRD
-----
LOST BiRD are two fellas from Wellington, New Zealand.
Ali excavates his heart into the songs, and Oliver covers them with whiskey-soaked violin lines.
It seems to work.
Ali and Oliver spend their days helping to make Wellington a better place – Oliver works for Sustainable Coastlines, while Ali has an innovative role running green space and recreation projects for Wellington City Council.
LISA CRAWLEY
-----
With a back catalogue that boasts two albums and three EPs, coupled with countless collaborations, tours, television appearances and acclaimed music-based projects, Lisa Crawley has well and truly earned her reputation as one of Australasia’s most well-respected musicians.
Lisa has recently released ‘Wedding Band’, a new single recorded by Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Leonard Cohen) at the prestigious Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity) where Crawley recently participated in an artists residency working with an all star grammy nominated faculty in Canada.
Lisa will be performing her cabaret show featuring original tunes at the NZ Fringe at the QT Hotels in Wellington in March 2018.
NIKITA TU-BRYANT
-----
Nikita Tu-Bryant identifies as being a storyteller; before musician, actor, writer, or visual artist.
My intention is to forever refine my art, to communicate human expression. I believe honest communication is the beginning to feeling connection and relating to the World around us.
Amongst her music with her folk band Nikita & the Spooky, as well as atmospheric-funk band FLITE; she has been writing her debut theatre piece Tide Waits for No Man: Episode Grace the last three years, which will be coming to stage in 2018.
DICK WHYTE
-----
Dick Whyte has played music in and around Wellington for 20 years. His haiku poetry has been published in numerous journals around the world.
Dick is a 'sometimes film-maker', amongst other things and runs a record label Ilk Ither with his Psych-folk trio bandmate Rupert Hunter.
Bursting with tension and melancholy, these songs are soaked with the blood of the desolate country, the abandoned industry, our internal wars. Whyte’s vocals are impossible to ignore. Absolutely essential listening - David Hampton, SlyVinyl
