Gig Information

What isn't possible, when two multi-instrumental, one-man-bands combine with an Ableton genius?

The Brunswick Space Agency presents, for the first time in New Zealand, Dub Cymatics, fresh out of the Australasian melting pot and built upon utilising the potential of midi-synced live looping. Two independently touring musicians, Erin (NZ), and Sid (NSW) link and sync their pedals (think Tash Sultana plus Ed Sheeran) and then mix live acoustic and electronic instruments (guitar, clarinet, keys, and trumpet) with drum samples and beatboxing to create everything from dubby reggae soundscapes to thumping live dance tracks.
Inspired to create conscious atmospheres that are enjoyable and uplifting, in both lyrical and musical content, the contrast between Sid’s funky, progressive style and Erin's signature vocal harmonies and leads build dynamic. Springing from a love of Reggae, Dub and Roots music, through Hip Hop, Dance and into Drum and Bass, their sound is fresh and evolving, inspired by Australasian influences Shapeshifter, Salmonella Dub, Blue King Brown and The Upbeats, to name a few. They’ve been described as “Like Fat Freddy’s Drop but with a chick singer”, or “A cool mashup between Kimbra and John Butler”.
Their first gig was opening for Sydney’s The Mavericks and the Kava Kings, and with Melbourne based producer and DJ Kayboku joining the group just before what’s possibly the biggest summer tour of New Zealand in 2018 which kicked off in January, Dub Cymatics are already going places, bringing a journey of sound and visuals to every show. Their Rootsy, Dub and freestyle grooves rippled outwards and they’re now also supporting Byron Bay’s International Dancehall Collective the 4’20 Sound for four shows of their own NZ tour. Currently boasting two tracks in the top 5 on Triple J Unearthed’s Dance charts (and climbing) within a month of hitting the site as a brand new act, they’re also clearly garnering the attention of industry as well as winning new fans at every gig, the kind that travel hundreds of kilometers to see the next show. Dub Cymatics just have a magic mix that will transfix you, and thats great, because you'll definitely want to keep an eye on these guys.
With almost fifty dates locked in around the country, they’re undoubtedly hitting a venue near you within the next few months. Shows will be everything from soulful, passionate jams featuring solo sets from both artists, to all-night dance parties featuring cutting edge, original productions and visual effects.
You can check out their two singles on Soundcloud: ‘Truth’ was written and recorded just for this tour. There’s an album in the pipeline, with another single set to drop within the next few weeks. Rumour has it that 2018 will also see Dub Cymatics hit the northern hemisphere, for a European tour as well, but details are yet to be released. Keep an eye on the website for more details, www.dubcymatics.com.

Catch ‘em while you can, and let Dub Cymatics shape your soul and energise you with the best vibrations.
