St. Kevin’s Arcade takes on a festival feel with the “MAINZ takeover” which will take place this Thursday 21 June. The MAINZ Arcade event will begin at 6pm sharp, running till late, with doors opening at 5.30pm and free entry (R18 – ID required).
Featuring students from the Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand (MAINZ)’ foundation level programmes, through to the Bachelor Degree, more than 20 artists acts will descend upon three stages at Whammy Bar and the Winecellar inside the arcade. With singer/songwriters performing original material as part of their artist development in finding their musical identity, DJ’s on stage delivering short sets and bands playing original and cover songs, the multi-stage musical feast will showcase performances from electronic music to rock, R’n’B to thrash, as well as emerging genres.
With previous years having a great turnout to see the live music on show, Programme Manager Kingsley Melhuish is eager to see the students in action. “This is the future of New Zealand music. It’s exciting to showcase the wealth of talent borne of MAINZ”!
