Baltimore-based pedal steel guitarist Susan Alcorn is currently making her way around New Zealand as part of a six-date tour presented by Altmusic. Having discovered the pedal steel guitar in her early 20s, Alcorn has developed a unique relationship with the instrument that has seen her compose adventurous works that take it beyond the realms of the country and western sounds with which it is normally associated. For her set last night at Wellington venue Meow, Alcorn was supported by Tom Callwood (The Phoenix Foundation), Tristan Carter (The Troubles) and Nell Thomas (Orchestra of Spheres), and photographer Benjamin James also was there and to take the incredible shots below...
