Weekly Round Up: Friday 22nd January

Friday 22nd January, 2016 1:15PM

Some cool tour news came through the wires this week. Locally, much-heralded live act The Dance Asthmatics are shimmying their way around the country for a few shows to support their latest EP. Trip hop act Doprah announced a the impending arrival of their debut album Wasting, which will be celebrated with a four-date tour kicking off late February. And fantasy Mexican band Carnivorous Plant Society revealed an extensive run of dates for a nationwide tour starting in a couple of weeks. In international tour news, Low announced their return to New Zealand for their first shows on these shores since 2010. Legendary DJ Norman Jay is heading to Auckland to for one show in February. And for lovers of old-timey blues, Blind Boy Paxton announced a four-show tour for March. In festival news, Chronophonium revealed their full (and we mean FULL) line-up for 2016. And HDU announced a special pre-Laneway sideshow with Avoid! Avoid.

In release news this week, we were absolutely stoked to receive news of PJ Harvey's forthcoming album The Hope Six Demolition Project, for which she revealed a trailer directed by Seamus Murphy that features the snippets of freshly baked tracks 'The Community Of Hope' and 'The Wheel'.  Also emerging out of silence is post-hardcore titans At The Drive In, who dropped the jaws of fans by announced they are reuniting to release a new album and will be touring for the first time since 2000. Locally, Auckland hardcore group Parents shared two new first-pumping cuts from their upcoming 10-inch record. The wonderful sister act Purple Pilgrims unveiled the ethereal Lynchian tune 'Thru Evry Cell' as a taster of their debut album to come. And Dunedin act Astro Children let loose their amazing new five-song offering Plain And Fancy Killings, which you can stream over here.

This week's Caught Live is actually a video that surfaced online late last year. It's PJ Harvey performing her beautiful new single 'The Wheel' live for the first time...
