Here's Five: Bonaparte

Here's Five: Bonaparte

Thursday 25th February, 2016 12:03PM

Electronic rock act Bonaparte, which is helmed by Berlin-based artist Tobias Jundt, is currently making tracks around the country for a bunch of shows on the heels of performing at this year's Splore festival. Obviously armed with time up his sleeve to enjoy the New Zealand summer, Jundt shared with us his five songs to enjoy a weekend in the Coromandel...

1. Beach Boys - Until I Die

It's a little more melancholic than what people would expect from the usual Beach Boys. But to me the seaside is always a matter of life and death. Such a pretty little gem of a song.

2. Lontalius - All I Wanna Say
I just discovered his music online last week, then met him briefly at Splore and exchanged a few words. Maybe we'll catch up musically when I'm down in Wellington, who knows?

3. Jens Lekman - Your Arms Around Me
Aidan who plays bass with me on these dates is a huge Jens Lekman fan and even wears his shirts to Bonaparte rehearsal. Jens is a pretty great lyricist who can make you laugh although you should be crying.

4. Andy Shauf - Jenny Come Home
I did some writing with Katy Steele in Melbourne the other week and she played this to me. It just slipped into the playlist here. I wanted to only include music that has just landed on my computer.

5. Chelsea Wolfe - Iron Moon
This was played to me in the car on way to rehearsal and I thought I have to put one in for the boys. This song is like being at the goth rodeo in double slow motion.

Bonaparte will be playing the following dates around the country...

Thursday 25th February, Whammy Bar, Auckland
Friday 26th February, Golden Dawn, Auckland (DJ Set)
Thursday 3rd March, Darkroom, Christchurch
Friday 4th March, The Sherwood, Queenstown
Saturday 19th March, Wellington, Meow w/ Glass Vaults
Sunday 20th March, Laundry, Wellington
