Video: Zen Mantra - Second Skin

The self-titled record from Zen Mantra is being released today via Flying Nun Records and to celebrate the Auckland act is sharing a video for lead single 'Second Skin'. The 10-track album saw Zen Mantra, which is helmed by Yumi Zouma's Sam Perry, venturing in to new musical territory inspired by underground German music from the 1960s and 70s as well as sounds from the UK psych scene circa 1980. In a statement, Perry explains his musical evolution...

"When I started out making music I wanted everything to sound huge. My ideal sound was ambient, polished, compressed, driving and loaded with hooks. Some kind of blissful, stadium sized psych-pop project. In the end I wanted to make something that felt like a pop record, but with an underlying sense of dissonance. Something that for most part is quite energetic and rhythm heavy, but without forgoing any atmospheric qualities.”
