Listen: Sea Views - Into The Night (UTR Premiere)

Wednesday 3rd August, 2016 10:27AM

Auckland four-piece Sea Views are on the precipice of unveiling their debut EP, and in anticipation the band have given us the go-ahead to premiere the heart-wrenching title track 'Into The Night'. The EP, which was laid down with Jeremy Toy and Tom Healy, is set for release on 9th August - and judging from this single it's going to be incredible. Soak up 'Into The Night' below while you read our interview with bandmember Ben Locke...

Hello! Can you please introduce us to Sea Views… who you are and what you do?

Hello! Sea Views is made from Benjamin Locke, Katie Everingham, Robert Bruce and Scott Kendall. We do Grungy Gazey rock inspired by Whangaroa harbour, Raymond Chandler novels and birthday VB's at Parakai!!

‘Into The Night’ is the first song from your forthcoming EP of the same name. Where/how did you do all the recording for the EP?

The recording took place in the studios of the infinitely talented: Jeremy Toy and Tom Healy. For most of the EP the instruments were tracked separately, except for the last song 'Kissing Wounds' which we tracked live.

The guitar sound is so dreamy. What kind of gear are you using to get that sound?

Thanks, very good gear! Jeremy had a lovely old Roland RE-201 Space Echo which pretty much did everything we wanted it to. I want one so bad. They're so beautiful.

The song has quite a solemn, pensive quality, that builds up to something quite compelling. What inspired that - and is it indicative of the rest of the EP?

I hope so! Thinking and being overly emotional are definitely recurring themes across the EP. 'Into the night' is kind of about a reckless indulgence in emotions. Driving (when you probably shouldn't) seemed to fit well as the metaphor there. Taking control of a big, powerful feeling and riding it out until it overwhelms you..

Into The Night EP will be be available on Bandcamp from the 9th of August, and Sea Views will be celebrating with a double release show with The Beths on the 12th of August at Whammy Bar and Wine cellar with support from Heavy, Eyes No Eyes, Siobhan Leilani and Wax Chattels.
