Seven Quick Questions: Her Desher

Seven Quick Questions: Her Desher

Thursday 3rd November, 2016 4:27PM

This Saturday, the BoredSound soundsystem are throwing a Super-Duper Secret Party in central Auckland (the exact location of which will be revealed tomorrow, we believe) and along with a dose of complimentary pizza and beer - the party has one killer line-up. On the bill with UTR faves sere, Magic Factory, Greenfog is a lesser-known band named Her Desher. Feeling curious, we thought we'd drop them a line to find out a bit more, and it turns out they're old mates...

1. Hello Her Desher! Can you please introduce yourselves…?

Yo, we're a stoner/doom trio from akl. Robert on bass, Scott on Guitar, Elliot on Drums. You might know us from Greenfog and Sea Views.

2. Where did the name come from and what does it mean?

Her Desher is what the ancient Egyptians called Mars, and I thought it sounded kinda cool? Mars is cool right? Oh and Scott is actually from Mars.

3. You’ve cited as Sleep and Electric Wizard as key influences, what about those bands in particular is appealing to you?

Well you've got your huge riffs, cranked amps, fuzz, aggression, slowness. It makes your face go 😣 or 😫 or 😟. We're trying to make your face do those things.

4. Can you share five of your favourite songs from artists that you align with, local or international?

Toner Low - Seven
Electric Wizard - ...a chosen few (note: not "The chosen few")
Sleep - Holy Mountain
Weedeater - Goliathan
High on Fire - 10,000 years

5. When it comes to songwriting what is the thing you most want to convey as a band?

Obey the riff, chur. We've been told we sound like climbing over fuzzy mountains, and there is a certain vast landscape imagery we seem to be conveying.

6. Who or what is Shithead Studios?

Haha oh yeah. I (Elliot) had a bit of a DIY studio set up at my old flat in Mt Roskill. There was this really tinny noisy garage I recorded a few things in under that name. The name is a play on words of Roundhead Studios, aren't I clever?

7. You’ve release a couple of singles on Bandcamp, any plans to release anything longer in the near future?

Absolutely, as soon as we have enough solid material we'll get a full length joker out there.

You can catch Her Desher this in Auckland Saturday 5th November at the Super-Duper Secret Party playing with sere, Greenfog, SangEarth Tongue and Magic Factory. Head over here for more information and to buy tickets.
