Weekly Round Up: Friday 4th November

Friday 4th November, 2016 2:17PM

Lots of interesting tidbits came through in tour news this week. Gothic punk-rockers The Damned are returning to New Zealand for one show in March. Post-metal pioneers Neurosis announced their first ever NZ shows on the coattails of their latest album, Fires Within Fires. British artist Sampha revealed an Auckland date for next May as part of an epic tour supporting his forthcoming debut album. Legendary dub musician Mad Professor has lined up a club show for Auckland for early next month. Locally, Tiny Ruins announced two special shows at Avondale's recently renovated Hollywood Theatre. Christchurch's The Dance Asthmatics announced a six-date tour to celebrate the vinyl release of their EP, A Lifetime Of Secretion. In festival news, an incredible line-up was revealed for NOW mini-festival in the Wellington region. And the good folk at Eyegum announced their very own camping festival for next February.

In release news, we were absolutely over-the-moon to premiere the new video for 'Trumphole' from Wellington anarcho-punks Unsanitary Napkin's upcoming debut album. We also had the privilege of premiering The Verlaines brand new song 'AWCWD', a tuned plucked from their forthcoming album Dunedin Spleen out on Flying Nun Records next year. And from further abroad, we were digging the new single from Papa M, which is the solo moniker of Slint guitarist David Pajo. UTR favourites Moon Duo announced a forthcoming pair of concept albums and shared a taster in the form of single 'Cold Fear'. And the prolific experimental-garage musician Dan Melchior shared new cut 'Krokodile Girl' as he gets ready to release his 40th-ish album.

This week's Caught Live is Conor Oberst delivering a heartwarming rendition of Emmylou Harris' song 'The Pearl' at a tribute concert to Harris last year, the footage of which is being shared as Rounder Records prepare to release the concert on DVD and Blu-Ray...
