Weekly Round Up: Friday 13th January

Friday 13th January, 2017 3:57PM

Our first week back on deck at the UTR offices after the holidays bought with it a few good tour announcements. To our delight, it was revealed that Australian psych outfit King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard is joining the line-up for Laneway Festival for their first ever NZ appearance. Spell-binding songstress Aldous Harding announced her upcoming sophomore album along with a four-date tour for next month. And, after a lengthy hiatus, The Ruby Suns have lined up five shows around the country kicking off next week in Wellington.

In release news, English shoegaze outfit Slowdive released their first new song in 22 years, the brilliant 'Star Roving'. The xx unveiled their eagerly anticipated third album I See You, head over here to read our interview with bandmember Jamie xx. Cleveland's Cloud Nothings shared an awesome video for single 'Internal World' as they work towards releasing their fourth record. Ariel Pink and Weyes Blood (who is performing here later this month) shared their mercurial joint effort 'Tears On Fire'. And although we didn't get to hear any of it, we were stoked to learn that Spoon are set to drop a new album in March via Matador. On the streaming front, some cool local releases came out of the woodwork. Our old pal Moppy shared his new offering Hexakosioihexekotahexaphobia (which is a fear of the number 666). Mr Amish from Wellington let loose his new EP, Mood. And ONONO dropped his debut album Bad Posture.

This week's Caught Live is Wellington's Hollywoodfun Downstairs performing a few tracks at White Noise Studio in The Netherlands while on tour in that neck of the woods recently. Head over here to soak up their new singles from upcoming album Tetris...
