Weekly Round Up: Friday 13th October

Friday 13th October, 2017 4:53PM

It's been another great week of live announcements and music releases in the leadup to summer, with Whammy Bar announcing the first lineup for its 10th Anniversary Whammyfest celebrations and the Phoenix Foundation sharing info on their tour plans with the New Zealand Symphony OrchestraLawrence Arabia will be extending a new leg of his solo 'An Evening Alone with Lawrence Arabia' tour, and the inaugural Girl Rock! Camp was announced for early 2018.

Upcoming international touring news for this week included the return of UK dance-rockers Primal Scream who'll be heading to Auckland this February, rising R'n'B futurist Kelela will be playing her first ever show in Aotearoa this coming January, and US agit-punks Downtown Boys will be heading over for their debut New Zealand appearance.

Notable local releases for this week include Wellington artist Estere's brand new mini-album My Design, Die!Die!Die!'s new video for single 'Bottlecaps and Phones (I Can't See You)', Opium Eater's crushing new prog-metal album Ennui, and Alexa Casino's mesmerising new video for her single 'Blu'. Auckland psych-rockers Ounce dropped a killer EP Satan II / Dead Mirror, Introverted Dancefloor snuck out a video for his first single in ages 'When I'm Lonely', and Wellington producer CHRONIC⛧SHNXMAN released their neo-gothic rap album Settling in for the Long Sleep.

The UTR office was abuzz about enigmatic UK artist King Krule's new album The OOZ, Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile's new collaborative album lived up to the hype, and our curiosity was peaked by Lorde's 2014 collaboration with WHY?'s Yoni Wolf which surfaced early this week.

Our Caught Live feature for this week is a stunning recent clip of Estère performing 'Nomads' from her new mini-album My Design on RNZ...
