Press release:

Future and Young Thug headline the announcement of more artists for Auckland City Limits on 3 March 2017. The two Atlanta-bred rappers are amongst the biggest names in contemporary hip-hop and join Beck, Justice, Grace Jones and over thirty more acts for the five stage, full day music festival at Western Springs.

Known for a uniquely fluid and melodic yet mumbling vocal style, Future busted out of the Dungeon Family collective with a flurry of mixtapes, high charting albums and platinum singles such as Low Life. He has since become a household name in the trap world with mega hits like Mask Off.

Rapper, fashion icon and status quo-challenging Young Thug is acclaimed as one of the most brilliant voices of his generation with massive singles Pick Up The Phone and Wyclef Jean. A distinctive rapper whose songs hang the hooks of huge underground anthems on the edge of radio-friendly weirdness, Thug flouts hip-hop convention and defies gender and sexual stereotypes making him a truly unique voice in contemporary pop culture.

Future and Young Thug and have just joined forces for a mixtape release titled Super Slimey.

Also added to the bill is the most exciting new name in local hip-hop JessB. Her P-Money produced track Soul Free announced the young rapper as a fearless voice with a high-energy delivery inspired by MC greats like Missy Elliot, Eve and Lil Kim.

Alien Weaponry round out the bill, bringing their uniquely powerful brand of Te Reo Māori and metal to the City Limits stage. The Northland trio are not yet out of their teens but have already been booked for a string of European rock festivals in 2018.

This announcement coincides with the final release of Earlybird Tickets for the festival at Western Springs.

Inspired by and aligned with the world-class Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas, Auckland City Limits fuses the best elements of Austin’s premier festival with a New Zealand flavour and spirit, creating an event that celebrates the spirit and heritage of Auckland.
