Weekly Round Up: Friday 16th March

Friday 16th March, 2018 6:03PM

This week saw a tonne of excellent local releases as we waved goodbye to the Summer party season and Autumn's darker days started rolling in. We were thrilled to premiere a spine-tingling new single from influential Lyttelton artist Delaney Davidson, and a four song EP from Auckland electronic duo KTN (pronounced "kitten") which is comprised of Lukas Hanson from alt-pop unit Pixels and Alex Guthrie of ALCS.

It was a great week for local singles, we saw killer tunes from Auckland electronic wizard (and UMO member) Kody Nielson, electrifying guitar-less trio Wax Chattels, Melbourne-based expat (and Batrider singer) Sarah Mary Chadwick, rising Cantabrian pop singer Nakita, songwriting wunderkind Elroy, and fizzy Wellington dance duo Bright Music. Auckland-based experimentalist Pumice unveiled a melancholic instrumental, and Christchurch artist Instant Fantasy shared a club-focussed remix by Boycrush of her signature single 'I Don't See an Honest Man'.

Notable local collections included the room-shaking debut EP from Auckland rapper JessB, the third long-player from foot-stomping, horn-loving Auckland duo Hopetoun Brown, the first catchy collection in six years from Wellington fuzz-punks Solo Ono, and a brutal album from Christchurch grind-merchants Gormukilliodokus.

We were stoked to chat with legendary Cypress Hill rapper B-Real about his love of the green and more, ahead of his appearance in Auckland next week alongside rap-rock supergroup Prophets Of Rage. Enigmatic UK songwriter King Krule (Archy Marshall) touched down in Auckland for a one-off, rain-drenched outdoor show at Silo Park on Monday, skilled photographer Connor Crawford was there to capture the event as Marshall and band tore through tunes from his acclaimed albums The OOZ and 6 Feet Beneath the Moon.

Our Caught Live video for the week features Auckland rapper Ryan Hendriks performing in hip hop duo Badcorporation, he'll be playing tonight at Wellington's Valhalla in celebration of the release of his excellent new solo album Old Zealand. Watch the great footage below of Hendriks throwing down alongside fellow Badcorporation member Cleophus and Stay Foolish Band at Auckland's Real Groovy Records...
