With a legacy stretching back to the mid-seventies, UK punk poet Dr. John Cooper Clarke's body of work is so highly regarded in his hometown of that it earned him an honorary doctorate from the University of Salford in 2013. Recently re-emerging into the mainstream public eye via a side-career in UK chat shows, Clarke's live presence is invigorating to say the least, belting out rapid fire rhymes and witty asides like a man possessed. After a charming set of nautical-themed poems from a flashlight-clad Andrew Fagan (of eighties hitmakers The Mockers), Clarke stormed the stage like a monster from outer space, fuzzy hat and sunglasses perched on top on his well-dressed wirey frame. Armed with only a microphone and a notebook he kept his enraptured audience on the edge of their seats, never knowing what scathingly hilarious and incisive tale was going to hit their ears next. At the age of 69, Clarke is clearly a master of his form and delivered an unforgettable night out, check out photographer Bruce Mackay's pics from his Wellington performance below...
