Portland label and news site Doomed & Stoned have unveiled a twenty seven track compilation titled Doomed & Stoned in New Zealand, featuring a who's who of heavy music artists from throughout Aotearoa including Beast Wars, Earth Tongue, Bottle, Opium Eater, Mothra, Bloodnut and lots more. It's an excellent primer for getting your head around New Zealand's blazed sonic output, encompassing doom metal, stoner rock, psychedelia and even more sludgy guitar genre groupings. "There are two things New Zealand does well though: horror movies and heavy music. Maybe it's the climate, or perhaps it's the isolation, we'll probably never know because scientists are working on more important things. It could be the excellent cannabis we grow, or the very magic mushrooms that crop up around our scenic vistas, but for a country with only 4.7 million people, we have a surprising number of heavy bands."
