Weekly Round Up: Friday 11th May

The second week of NZ Music Month has continued to give up the goods, with a deluge of top notch local releases tumbling down the musical pipeline. We were stoked to premiere a number of crucial singles, including Wellington songsmith Joe Blossom's very stylish latest clip, North Island shredders Dark Divinity's menacing new video, Auckland singer and producer A.C. Freazy's sparkling single 'Only One' and the latest tune from Ashhurst "coffee punks" Soda Boyz.

We also had the opportunity to track down some fine talents for a chinwag - our resident metal maniac Fluffy spoke with Japanese black / thrash legends Sabbat about their upcoming visit to New Zealand, and award-winning Auckland-based songwriter Julia Deans dished the dirt on her long-awaited sophomore album We Light Fire - which is out today!

More local highlights from a crammed week includ a new track from Berlin-via-Auckland techno artist Keepsakes, a standalone single from ace Auckland rapper Dbldbl, Kody Nielson's much-anticipated solo album of instrumental synth-baroque tunes, an intoxicating collection of dance tracks from house producer Donnie Vercelli, a super catchy new song from Auckland guitar poppers The Beths, and an artful sci fi video from Wellington multi-instrumentalist George Turner. We also bore witness to the launch of Doomed & Stoned In New Zealand - a twenty seven track primer of heavy music artists from throughout Aotearoa, including tracks from Beast Wars, Earth Tongue, Bottle, Opium Eater, Mothra, Bloodnut and lots more.
