Premiere: Alizarin Lizard Share Sparkling Single 'No One Could Tell'

Thursday 7th June, 2018 11:46AM

After nearly five years of sonic slumber, Dunedin-based guitar-slingers Alizarin Lizard have unveiled 'No One Could Tell', their second single in just over a month, following their dreamy recent tune 'Back To Front'. The latest song brings an orchestra of sounds to the fore, with jangling strings joined by flourishes of vibraphone, trombone, "one-thousand-voiced PC choir" and more. Songwriter Paul Cathro spins a psychedelic-tinged tale over the top exploring themes both cosmic and introspective. We caught up with the band who spilled the beans about the track...

"The bones of 'No One Could Tell' were recorded in Bugs' (Miller) lounge, and as a result, you can hear various background kitchen noises and chatter throughout. This adds to the lyrical ideas of a crowded place where everything is happening all the time, and there is no escape. When asked about his lyrics, Paul Cathro replied; "It's about how we all have to live in our minds and accepting that even though it's a big place, it has very little room. A finite universe within the universe.""
