Premiere: Wurld Series Share 'Stately and Befrothed' EP

Wednesday 4th July, 2018 10:05AM

Christchurch guitar wranglers Wurld Series have unveiled their shiny six song collection Stately and Befrothed via ever-reliable Cantabrian independent imprint Melted Ice Cream Records, and are jumping in the van next week for a national tour to celebrate the release. Recorded by the team of Luke Towart, Brian Feary, Ben Woods and Abi Macilquham, the follow-up to last year's debut album Air Goofy charts its own course through dazed melodies, melancholic lyrics and fuzzed-out vibes, drawing formal inspiration from the likes of cracked DIY figureheads Pavement and Lilys. For the upcoming shows Wurld Series are bidding a fond farewell to Woods and Macilquham, and welcoming gig-hardened tour mates Emma Hattaway and Adam Hattaway. Singer and guitarist Towart dished the dirt on the band's latest creation, read his words below and catch them in your area this month alongside Girlboss, Hans Pucket, Water, The Naenae Express and more...

"'Stately and Befrothed' was recorded in late 2017 by Brian Feary our drummer at The Dogshit Factory which is our storage unit practice space in Woolston. It was recorded with a Tascam 424 mkiii four track with digital overdubs.

The desire to do an EP after our first album Air Goofy came from our love of classic nineties EPs like 'Watery Domestic' by Pavement and 'A Brief History of Amazing Letdowns' by Lilys. Solid, compact guitar records that are over quick but get a lot done in that time and seem to move through many stages.

This EP is the last to feature guitarist Ben Woods and bassist Abi Macilquham. Both have moved on to focus on their own solo projects but were crucial to the writing and recording of Stately! Wurld Series now includes Adam and Emma Hattaway on guitar and bass. AH is a returning member having been part of the 'Air Goofy' lineup. We have been writing heaps of songs recently so the tour will feature a lot of real new stuff along with songs from the new EP and our last album.

We are really looking forward to touring and seeing all our favourite bands who are playing with us! Our last tour was 2016! For both the Dunedin and Christchurch shows we have Fazed on a Pony joining us who are one of my favourite current NZ bands, so it will be good to bring them up for their first Christchurch show.

In terms of staying sane on tour Brian says he will be listening to 'Astral Weeks' a lot. I will be listening to Stephen King audio books probably. 'Dark Tower'! And 'Isolation Drills'."
