Press Release:

Merging unparalleled musical bravery, prodigious musicianship, flawless execution and an angular landscape of forward thinking ideas, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME (aka BTBAM) reinvent the rock 'n roll idiom while pleasing their harshest critics: themselves. Joining metal's dexterity and progressive rock's psychedelic, multi-layered experimentation, BTBAM create spine-tingling sound that contains visceral power, labyrinthine arrangement, mind-boggling melody and majestic beauty.

The band has released a total of nine recordings since its formation in 2000, among them six full-length albums including 2009's critically acclaimed The Great Misdirect, which landed at #36 on the Billboard Top 200 in its first week of release. The group has showcased its live prowess via a slew of world headlining tours and has participated in major touring festivals including Ozzfest and the Radio Rebellion and Progressive Nation tours. Since their inception, the band have sold nearly one and a half million records and proven themselves as a progressive rock pacesetter whose modernist clang pegs it as a paradigm to be followed and a yardstick by which other bands are measured.

The next step in BTBAM's musical journey is The Parallax II: Future Sequence; the follow up to 2011's The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues. Musically, of course, it sounds like Between the Buried and Me, with elements of aggression, beauty, quirkiness, and pure cacophony. It represents BTBAM's musical and conceptual masterwork, showcasing the quintet's vivid execution and ambitious vision. This vision will be showcased on stage when Auckland and Wellington become among the first cities to witness the band's latest material in a live setting, as part of a two date tour in November.

Accompanying BTBAM on both shows will be fellow American prog-metal masterminds ANIMALS AS LEADERS. The Washington, D.C. trio, led by master-of-all-trades musical virtuoso Tosin Abasi (who recently performed in New Zealand as part of a series of acclaimed guitar clinic sessions), continue to bring their eclectic, brain-warping fusion of metal, jazz and progressive rock to the masses on the back of their 2011 album Weightless, which has seen the band prominently chart globally and perform on countless major festivals and headliner tours throughout the world.

Seize this opportunity to behold two of heavy progressive music's most consistent, dynamic and truly original bands of the last decade at the very top of their games - and both performing in New Zealand for the very first time.
