Lips aka NY based kiwi Stephanie Brown has taken out the 2012 APRA Silver Scroll Award for her hit single "Everything To Me". The award was announced last night night at a ceremony in Auckland with Brown genuinely blown away by the win. She was up against Opossom, Lydia Cole, Anna Mach and The Eastern. APRA Silver Scroll Awards 2012: The Winners!

In its 47th year of honouring New Zealand songwriters, tonight the APRA Silver Scroll Award has been presented at the Auckland Town Hall.

The winner of the 2012 APRA Silver Scroll Award is: Stephanie Brown - “Everything To Me” - performed by Lips

“It’s a special honour to shine a light on such a beautiful song. A languid but wonderfully considered love song that seems to have slipped under the radar so far. Stephanie is a hugely talented songwriter.” says Anthony Healey, Director of NZ Operations for APRA.

APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) is the organisation that represents all New Zealand music writers. The Silver Scroll Award is the pre-eminent peer voted prize for any music writer making music today. Previous winners have included writers as diverse as The Naked and Famous, Neil Finn, Dave Dobbyn, Scribe, Chris Knox and Lawrence Arabia.

APRA is also proud to announce the winners of the following Awards presented at the Auckland Town Hall tonight:

APRA Maioha Award - celebrating contemporary Maori music: Te Awanui Reeder, David Atai & Scotty Morrison - “Matahīapo” performed by AWA (Mushroom Music Pty Ltd) SOUNZ Contemporary Award - recognising creative excellence by a contemporary composer: Alex Taylor - “[inner]”

Inducted in the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame are: Herbs - Dilworth Karaka, Toni Fonoti, Phil Toms, Spencer Fusimalohi, John Berkley, Fred Faleauto and Charles Tumahai (deceased), Maurice Watene, Tama Lundon, Jack Allen, Carl Perkins, Willie Hona, Thom Nepia, Tama Renata, Gordon Joll, Grant Pukeroa, Kristen Hapi.

Most Performed Work in New Zealand (most played on radio and television in New Zealand): “Love Love Love” - Dave Baxter, performed by Avalanche City (Sony/ATV Music Publishing)

Most Performed Work Overseas (most played on radio and television overseas): “Don’t Dream it’s Over” by Neil Finn
