Weekly Round-up: 5th October 2012

Weekly Round-up: 5th October 2012

Friday 5th October, 2012 12:11PM

After last week's massive set of tour announcements, it was local news that dominated the landscape this week. The Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards 2012 nominees were announced and Home Brew and Kimbra headed up the nominations, with five and six respectively. The technical awards were announced and Kody Nielson took home Best Producer for Bic Runga's album Belle, Angela Keoghan took home Best Album Cover for Bannerman's Dearly Departed and Neil Baldock rounded out the winner's with Best Producer credits for Lydia Cole's Me & Moon. The Critic's Choice finalists were also announced, and Watercolours, Beach Pigs and Loui the Zu will fight it out live on October 17th at the Kings Arms. The VNZMAs take place on November 1st at Vector Arena.

In more local news, Flying Nun Records and Real Groovy Records have announced that they will release two Toy Love Compilations: a double LP of singles and a DVD collection of clips.

Last week may have been massive, but a couple of exciting tours have still been announced this week. Unknown Mortal Orchestra will play two New Zealand shows ahead of their support slot for Weezer next January, and tickets to the Wellington show are on sale now over here. The Omar Rodriguez Lopez (The Mars Volta, At The Drive In) Group will play two shows in November and tickets for those shows will be available from Monday 8th October here.

In live footage-that-we-don't-usually-cover-news, Liars gave an arresting performance of 'Brats' in Minneapolis this week, a track from their recently released album WIXIW. Bat for Lashes is headlining Laneway Festival 2013 and performed a series of songs from her forthcoming album The Haunted Man on BBC6 recently, the video for which you can watch over here. Finally, if you want to see how good Crystal Castles have the potential to be in Auckland next January head over here for some live shots from their latest show.
