Weekly Round-Up: 12th October, 2012

Friday 12th October, 2012 9:01AM

After many of the summer international side shows were announced - arguably off of the back of Australian festivals like Big Day Out - a couple of weeks ago, we thought that might be it. Alas, last week Omar Rodriguez and Unknown Mortal Orchestra announced New Zealand shows and this week there have been a bunch more. American experimental rock band Dirty Projectors are heading this way for the second time, in January 2013 (if you were at their live shows in 2010 you'll know how great they are) in celebration of the release of their latest full length album, Swing Lo Magellan. Also from America, True Panther-signed (also home to Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Glasser and Real Estate) Teengirl Fantasy are heading here for a one-off Wellington show at Blink's (of 'A Low Hum') new Wellington venue, Puppies in November. On top of these, Real Groovy Wellington has announced their first 'Evolution' music festival, a day of music and Toy Love tributes at Real Groovy Queen Street, Auckland.

A lot of bands have made their albums available for stream this week, too. Bat for Lashes (who is headling Laneway Festival 2013), has previewed six songs from her forthcoming album, The Haunted Man, and Dan Snaith (Caribou) has previewed his debut album from new project Daphni, called Jiaolong. San Franciscan musician Mickey Maramag who releases music under Blackbird Blackbird is streaming his multi-layered, psychedelic EP Boracay Planet over here, and earlier in the week cult post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor made their latest album ALLELUJAH! DON'T BEND! ASCEND! available to listen to.

Finally, it was apparently also the week to release video clips. Jack White dropped his combative vision for 'I'm Shakin'' from his debut solo album Blunderbuss, Matt and Kim dropped an hilarious clip that centres around an eighties family portrait situation for their track 'Let's Go', San Franciscan garage rock band Thee Oh Sees released the visual accompaniment to 'Lupine Dominus' from their latest album Putrifiers II and Sigur Ros rolled out the latest in their Valtari Film Series, for 'Dauðalogn', directed by Rusian Fedotow.
