Listen: 2012 Christmas Songs

Thursday 6th December, 2012 10:04AM

We're seriously close to the end of the year now and while we're sure there are many cynics out there who associate Christmas with awkward staff parties and presents, there are a bunch of musicians who are all about The Christmas Cheer. So much so that they've released Christmas songs and albums (some of them 59 tracks long - hi Sufjan Stevens!) to celebrate the festive season.

The world's Queen and King of Twee, She & Him, released (of course they did) A Very She and Him Christmas in November and went on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to perform 'The Christmas Waltz' which you can check out below.

So Sufjan Stevens is no stranger to either Christmas albums or being fucking weird (see below). Last year he released 42-track holiday album but this year he has well and truly trumped that effort by recording 59 tracks and releasing them complete with stickers depicting a panda in a Christmas sweater holding a human skull, among other things. The album is called Silver & Gold and to celebrate the release Stevens dropped a bunch of promotional videos that show him performing the songs in-between staged, infomercial-esque footage. If you'd prefer to listen to just a song, we've included the video for 'Christmas Room', too.

Guys, The Killers are funny! Continuing their tradition of releasing Christmas songs the band dropped 'I Feel it in my Bones', a parody on the ritual of sending Santa Claus a letter. Watch the really quite amazing video below.

Starbucks have gotten into the holiday spirit this year too by recruiting a bunch of artists for a compilation: Christmas Rules. The likes of The Shins and Elanor Freidberger contributed tracks and you can listen to Rufus Wainwright and Sharon Van Etten's offering, 'Baby it's Cold Outside', below.

Crocodiles and Dum Dum Girls have lent their scuzzy vision to the holiday season with their track 'Merry Christmas, Babe (Please Don't Die)'.

In awesome Christmas collaboration news, Cee Lo Green has joined forces with The Muppets (!) for a track on his album, Cee Lo's Magic Moment.

Because Jimmy Fallon rules and Mariah Carey actually has a really good voice, they teamed up with The Roots (just casually) and a group of kids for a cover of 'All I Want for Christmas is You'. If this isn't the most Christmas-y thing ever (*heartwarming*), I don't know what is.

Finally, in local news The Cosby's - as well as dressing up in giant nappies for their Christmas party - have released their very own Christmas track too! Called 'How I'm Gonna Lose You This Christmas' you can check it out below.

And, if sitting at home streaming these YouTube videos isn't quite festive enough for you, check out how many people want to celebrate the holiday season with you over live music, with the list of Christmas-themed events, below.
