Weekly Round-Up: Friday 7th December

Friday 7th December, 2012 12:32PM

Well we wish we could enter into this roundup with more positive summer vibes, this being our first official roundup of summer, but it's been a pretty volatile week weather-wise, particularly in Auckland - our thoughts go out to those who suffered at the hands of the extreme weather event yesterday.

Music-wise though the week has ticked along nicely, we are particularly excited about Tame Impala being added to the Laneway Festival 2013 lineup and also for Moon Duo's just announced New Zealand tour. The two piece features Ripely Johnson from Wooden Shjips who have impressed on both their past two visits. Other tour announcements this week include The Offspring back for the first time since 1999, Michael Kiwanuka returns in April for his first official New Zealand tour and Die! Die! Die! have announced tour dates this month.

In other tour news: Neil Young's Wellington show with Crazy Horse has sold out but tickets for his Auckland date are still available; Stone Roses tickets went on sale this week and are selling quickly; The Pretty Things are in town next week and we got to speak to founding member Dick Taylor who was also a founding member of the Rolling Stones; Amanda Palmer has postponed her upcoming New Zealand and Australian tour to be with a friend suffering from cancer and Jeff The Brotherhood have also cancelled their upcoming New Zealand tour due to commitments in the US.

In other music news: on the release front Atoms For Peace's, aka Thom Yorke's new project with Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco and Flea, have confirmed the release of new album Amok in February; My Bloody Valentine's long promised Loveless follow-up is unlikely to be released this year as promised by Kevin Shields but is close according to a DrownedinSound interview with Debbie Googe and in awards news, nominees for next years Grammy Awards have been announced with Bret McKenzie (Flight of The Concords) and Kimbra up for awards but nothing for Grizzly Bear, disappointing Ed Droste who took to twitter and was comforted by Grammy winner Bon Iver; nominations for the annual Taite Music Prize are now open and Grayson Gilmour took out the Best Score award at the first ever 'Sorta Unoffical' New Zealand Film Awards held this week. Finally, if you're struggling to get into the Christmas spirit this year, check out our collection of awesome new xmas themed tunes from the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Crocodiles + Dum Dum Girls, The Killers and Cee Lo Green + The Muppets.

Caught live this week we have Stephen Malkmus covering some tracks from Can album Ege Bamyasi which he played in full backed by German band Von Spar in celebration of the album's 40th anniversary. Here is one clip and there are a couple more over at Pitchfork's YouTube channel.
