Listen: The Strokes - One Way Trigger

Monday, 28th January 2013 9:05AM

The Strokes released a new track on their site over the weekend lending weight to recent rumours of a forthcoming album from the former trailblazers. Little information has been released about the song, titled 'One Way Trigger', but if it is indeed from the new album it gives little hope of a return to form for the New York five piece after their disappointing 2011 outing Angles.

'One Way Trigger' is confusing and weird, sounding like it's playing at the wrong speed most of the time with strange falsetto/auto tuned(?) vocals from Julian Casablancas - listen below and head to their site to download a copy...

UPDATE: The Strokes have now officially announced the release of a new album in March titled 'Come Down Machine' - this track will feature on it but is not the first single, that is 'All The Time' which will be released mid-Feb.

This is awesome. First Strokes song that I've liked since "Last Nite". Totally keen to check out the album!

Angles was wicked. This song is really damn good too. Sure, they're not the same as they were back in the Is This It and Room On Fire days, but Angles was awesome. And this song is really good, can't wait to hear a new album.

What are you talking about? This is a phenomenal single. And I don't even like the Strokes.

Alright, this song is rank. It's UNBELIEVABLY bad. But Angles was a GREAT album. Not dissapointing in the least.

I like this. It's different for sure but it still has the strokes formula of music. The melodies ,the rhythm, the quirky 80s notes. Def different but what new work isn't different from artists? If its not different then where's the room for growth ? To try and reach and hope for the golden age of the strokes' is this is it is a false expectation because they will never go back and try and sound like that simply for the reason to not sound repetitive.

Seriously?
This track is awesome! It's totally confusing and weird - isn't that kind of the point?

To be perfectly honest, I don't understand why Angles was such a "disappointment" to some people - I thought it was great; perhaps not as strong as their Is This It hey-day, but a strong album nonetheless. The Strokes are never going to make a comeback if people don't support them, and holding out for an Is This It imitation is far from support, it's unimaginative and unprogressive.

Sounds like a Chipmunks styled sped-up version of a previous Stokes riff to me. Grim.

These dudes need to get back to the drawing board, (or at this rate retirement) what a horrible way to be remembered...
