Weekly Round-Up: Friday 1st February

Weekly Round-Up: Friday 1st February

Friday 1st February, 2013 1:00PM

Pinch and a punch for the first of the month guys! While unsure how we feel about it being February already, we're sure glad it's Friday especially after Laneway Festival destroyed us (in the best possible way) on Monday. A Place To Bury Strangers, Tame Impala and Wellingtonians The Eversons stood out, and you can check out our live review here and photos from the day by Grant Stone over here.

In tour news,  Flying Nun stalwarts Snapper have announced two Wellington shows in February (following shows from the equally-seminal Bailterspace this weekend), Popstrangers are playing four dates across New Zealand in support of their SPUNK/Carpark Records-released debut album Antipodes and controversial Auckland band Girls Pissing on Girls Pissing head off on a thorough nationwide tour today. Internationals Mount Eerie and Thee Oh Sees play over the next week and Austin-based Sleep Over has also announced two side shows ahead of her Camp a Low Hum set.

In album release news, our favourite dance-punkers !!! have announced their exceptionally titled fifth studio album THR!!!ER will be released on April 29th via Warp, Iron and Wine will release Ghost on Ghost on April 16th and seminal electronic duo The Knife dropped a video for single 'Full of Fire' from their forthcoming album Shaking the Habitual, also due in April. The Strokes have confirmed the release of a new album this year but it's title -  Comedown Machine - and prank-sounding first track released last weekend don't give us much hope of a return to form for the New Yorkers.

To book-end this week's round-up: if you're devastated that our festival season is over, get excited (or really depressed) by the announcements from the big northern hemisphere guys. Coachella again prove they can recruit every touring artist on the planet, although if THIS is anything to go by apparently nobody knows who either The Stones Roses or Blur are. If you on the other hand do know who these bands are, sorry! Coachella 2013 is already sold out. However, Blur are also headlining Primavera 2013 in Barcelona, alongside the likes of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and the Jesus and Mary Chain.
