Listen: Bang Bang Eche - Boys Are Gonna Make You Cry

Monday 18th March, 2013 10:23AM

Christchurch dance-punks Bang Bang Eche ended a quiet spell last month, albeit temporarily,  with the surprise release of a new three track EP titled UR The Best.    Their first release in a number of years, it will also be their last for sometime with members currently off in all directions but still intending to play live when/where possible. Here is excellent closing track 'Boys Are Gonna Make You Cry' and below is some information from the band about the release...

About the EP...

"The EP was recorded mid last year while we were in Spain with our engineer / parent / life coach Joseph Veale. Our Spanish booking agent has this amazing villa in Mallorca that he let us stay in for about 3 weeks, to record songs that were written during our tours in 2011. It was really great because it was the middle of summer, and the house had a tennis court and a pool that we used everyday.

After we finished recording, we went back home to get the EP mastered and do other stuff - James finished his PHD, and T'Nealle owns the Darkroom bar in Christchurch, which is totally awesome and she's currently working on opening up another premises in New Regent St. The EP was mastered by Dave Cooper, who's this awesome guy who lives in Christchurch but has mastered a whole bunch of crazy shit like lots of random movie soundtracks - he did the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack and the soundtrack to the original Tron.

Regarding the actual songs - 'Boys Are Gonna Make You Cry' is closest we've ever come to writing a song in a major key, so maybe we are getting happier with age. 'Cough Cough' has the most guitar tracks we've ever put on a song, and 'Boy Scouts' is a song we wrote in Bulgaria after we played at this really high class festival set at a boy scouts camp. At the time we were pretty sure the promoters were in the mafia because we got jewellery on our rider. All the songs went through about 100 transformations before we were happy with them because that's how we write songs I guess!"
