Godspeed You! Black Emperor Win Polaris Prize

Godspeed You! Black Emperor have won the Polaris Prize for their excellent new album Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!. An influential Canadian music award that seeks to celebrate albums for their creative integrity above other considerations, past winners have included Feist, Fucked Up, Arcade Fire and Caribou. The pioneering post-rock troupe were not entirely impressed though, pointing out the absurdities of such an award in a statement released via their label's site where they claim they'll be using their winnings ($30,000) to start a program for prisoners in Quebec to ensure they always have access to musical instruments. 

We are happy for them all the same, and are grateful for the new album which enabled them to tour New Zealand for the first time ever this year (live photos of their shows available over here) - here's a stream of the opening track 'Mladic':
