FLIP GRATER ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM RELEASE DATE AND NZ TOUR

After almost four years on the road and many weeks in a smoke-filled studio in Paris, Flip Graterís beautifully crafted ĎPIGALLEí is set to be released on April 4 in New Zealand and will be supported by a five-date tour.

Pigalle is the result of a song-writing journey that took Grater house-sitting across NZ, to colourful Argentina for Carnival, to the bright lights of LA and to the warm shores of Italy. Her final destination was romantic Paris, and this is where she lived alone and penniless for a year, trying to make a new band and enough money to record her next album.

ďI figured, why be a poor musician in New Zealand when I could be a starving musician in Paris? At least that had a romantic air to it!Ē - Flip Grater

The album is named after the Paris quarter in which is was recorded, at the famous Studio Pigalle - one of the oldest studios in Paris. Its situation in the heart of Pigalle, surrounded by brothels and guitar shops and a few steps away from the Moulin Rouge was the perfect setting to record this gritty and honest album. The area has inspired many of Franceís finest musicians and artists, from Serge Gainsbourg (who recorded at the same studio) to Edith Piaf (who was a Pigalle street performer) to painters who lived in the area such as Picasso and Dali.

Pigalle is Flip Graterís fourth full-length album, following on from 2006ís Cage For A Song, 2008ís Be All And End All and 2010ís VNZMA Folk Album Of The Year Finalist - While Iím Awake Iím At War.

In Pigalle Flip retains her characteristic simplicity and intimacy, but is also full of the kind of self-reflection and nostalgia one lives through when travelling alone for long periods. The album includes 2 songs co-written by Flipís friends Geoff Maddock (ex Goldenhorse) and Herve Peroncini (of Italian band, The Peawees), a duet with Nicolas Ker (Poni Hoax) and features a band of talented French musicians including popular French artist Babx.

Pigalle is a dark and graceful journey that is truly Flip Graterís most outstanding achievement to date.

PIGALLE is set to be released on April 4th 2014 on Maiden Records via RhythmMethod.
