Record Store Day 2014 In New Zealand

Record Store Day 2014 In New Zealand

Wednesday 16th April, 2014 12:57PM

This year's Record Store Day is on Saturday (19th April) and a bunch of independent retailers across the country are taking part. The annual event has been going strong since 2007, and tradition dictates that releases pressed especially for Record Store Day are sold on a first come-first served basis (i.e no holds, no presales) so make sure you get in quick. Below you'll find a selection of stores and what they're up to, but whether your local is officially participating or not, it is a great excuse to get along and show your neighbourhood record store some love...

Real Groovy Records - Queen Street, Auckland

Live music from The Spelling Mistakes and The Phoenix Foundation as well as guest DJs. The exclusive vinyl release Suburban Reptiles 7” re-issue will be available only at Real Groovy, but also up for grabs will be new material from The Phoenix Foundation on 7”, alongside and a selection of Record Store Day releases including local presses from Scavengers, La De Da’s and The Spelling Mistakes.

Southbound Records - Mt Eden Road, Auckland

The day will include live instore performances from Delaney Davidson and Tami Neilson and Delaney’s new album Swim Down Low will be available on vinyl, a week ahead of the CD release. It is limited to only 100 copies in New Zealand and includes a 20 page booklet of tour impressions and photographs covering the last four years.  Southbound also secured 100 individual Record Store Day releases that will be sale on the day.

Conch Records - Ponsonby Road, Auckland

Conch will be broadcasting George FM live-to-air from instore. Plus a special live performance from She's So Rad, DJ sets from Jellphonic and more. There are also rumours they have been busy processing more than 2000 second-hand records from the collection of former George FM morning host Nick D (who has recently departed for Japan), so that alone might be worth a visit.
