Weekly Round Up: Friday 9th May

Friday 9th May, 2014 2:02PM

Things we pretty quiet in terms of tour news this week, but Wednesday came bearing both good and bad news for concert-goers. We were bummed to learn that Arizona rock band Meatpuppets had to cancel their May shows Wellington and Auckland due to visa and immigration issues. Refunds have been processed for fans who bought their tickets via the website and people who purchased tickets through our retailers Real Groovy, Slow Boat and RPM should get in touch through our helpdesk. The upswing is that Seattle drone legends Earth will be making their way to this side of the globe in June for a three-date tour, along with whispers that New Zealand fans might get to preview some brand new material.

Moving on to release news, there were a lot of videos coming out of the woodwork this week. Some of our favourites included Shirley Manson and Brody Dalle banding together in a monochrome clip for Garbage's single 'Girls Talk'. Also in ninties-band news, Courtney Love put out a video for her track 'You Know My Name', which stars Ms Love doing what she does best: lolling about. And The Savages unveiled a beautifully produced live video for their track 'Fuckers', a track that has had much concert play but has just come out on 12-inch vinyl. A little closer to home, we premiered the enchanting wee video for 'Babies' from Melbournites The Icypoles, who are the first Australian signing for Auckland-based label Lil' Chief Records. Locally, the self-professed dirtbags known as The Admiral put out a fun and crunchy clip for their song 'Bother Me', which came out recently on a split 7-inch vinyl with Cool Runnings.

This week also saw us resurrect last year's NZ Music Month feature where we stream an album each week of May, which in some cases have got a little bit lost in time, or are not readily available online. We kicked off the special feature with the 1996 album Caul of the Outlaw by King Loser, and we have a bunch more records ready to roll, so tune in on Monday for the next installment.

This weeks' Caught Live comes to you courtesy of Trans Am, who premiered their new single 'Megastorm' by way of a fancy live clip. The song is part of the trio's upcoming album Volume X, out later this month...
