Weekly Round Up: Friday 16th May

Friday 16th May, 2014 2:12PM

A bunch of big name acts announced their impending arrival in New Zealand for this week’s tour news. Firstly, the newly created Soulfest will bring an incredible line up including D’Angelo, Mos Def, Common and Angie Stone to these shores to play amongst some other fantastic acts at Auckland’s Western Springs during an October afternoon. On the other end of the musical spectrum, Brazilian metallers Sepultura will be returning to these shores for the first time since 2003 to play a one-off show, also in October. For a blast from the uber-80s past, Swedish power-pop duo Roxette are winging their way here next February for their first ever New Zealand performance. And top-to-toe tattooed rapper Kid Ink will be coming over from Los Angeles in August to get lyrical at Auckland venue The Studio.

In release news, today two records from two fantastic new Zealand groups get officially introduced to the world. Psychedelic-pop group Sherpa have unveiled their sophomore album Blues & Oranges, which follows their critically acclaimed debut Lesser Flamingo (read our interview with frontman Earl Ho). And Wellingtonites The Phoenix Foundation are sharing their snappy new EP Tom's Lunch, which features the talents of new addition, drummer Chris O'Connor. Both groups are hitting the national tour circuit this weekend, so keep an eye out for them in your town soon. Further afield, the awe-inspiring Morrissey shared the titular single from his upcoming tenth solo album World Peace Is None Of Your Business, which is due out July 15th, in the meantime you can now catch up with Moz on his newly engaged Twitter account. Also in a sharing mood was Fucked Up, who put out a radiant video for the new song 'Sun Glass', from their album Glass Boys that is due to drop on May 30th via Matador Records.

In gossip news, well it's pretty hard to get past all the Beyonce/Jay-Z/Solange hoopla that has been hitting the feeds this week, but Deborah Harry issued a PSA on The Daily Show to remind people about the dangers of elevator violence. In the WTF files, there is a strong rumour that Justin Bieber will be releasing a song with the late Michael Jackson, who is pretty productive these days having just put out post-humous album Xscape. And finally, it kinda sounds like a gag following their soggy April Fool's joke, but The Flaming Lips are set to put out a of The Beatles' 1967 classic St Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, however pre-orders apparently are opening up in the next few days.

This week's Caught Live is a clip is not strictly a live video, but a sweet and insightful interview of hardcore group Against Me! by an American seventh grader...
