SEMINAR ONE - INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Presented by Outward Sound

11.00am – 12.30pm

It’s not unusual for an artist to aspire for his or her moment in the international spotlight. But with the competitive and unpredictable market of today there isn't a one size fits all model or a cut and paste method on how to achieve this and reach new fans in foreign territories. This seminar will look at four very different kinds of international success across a range of very different genres of music. The panel will give their two cents on how each act got there, the every day challenges, and how to approach decisions and business opportunities that have the ability to reach millions of people and either make or break the careers of artists.

Speakers:
Scott MacLachlan – Lorde, Sol3 Mio
Craig Pearce – The Phoenix Foundation, The Black Seeds
Ben Howe – Flying Nun & Arch Hill Records, Tiny Ruins and Ghost Wave
Paul McKessar – The Naked and Famous, Brooke Fraser, Breaks Co-op, Lydia Cole

SEMINAR TWO - ARTIST DEVELOPMENT
Presented by Recorded Music NZ

1.15pm – 2.45pm

The idea of Artist Development is exceedingly elusive; particularly because there is no one tangible “thing“ that makes an artist or band successful, therefore devising a development plan for an artist can be challenging. With the traditional role of labels changing, often the job of artist development is now done by the band themselves or their manager/s.

On this panel there are four managers who have successfully developed their artists for local and international success. This seminar will focus on their individual experiences and how they achieved those successes.

Speakers:

Scott MacLachlan – Lorde, Sol3 Mio
Lorraine Barry – Dave Dobbyn, Glass Owls, Benny Tipene
Vicky Blood – ex manager of Gin Wigmore
Mark de Jong – founder of Parachute Music, Ruby Frost, Mzwetwo, Massad

SEMINAR THREE - SONGWRITING DEVELOPMENT
Presented by APRA

3.00pm – 4.30pm

We've all seen how one good song can shoot an artist from zero to infinity, though how an artist approaches the craft of songwriting is different in each case and can't typically be pinned to one particular method. In this seminar we throw it directly into the hands of the songwriters themselves to encourage new ideas and to discuss techniques that have worked for them. The panel made up of experienced songwriters and emerging songwriters will talk about their song writing practices, collaborating with other songwriters, writing songs for other artists and how to handle the ever-daunting writers block.

Speakers:
Shayne Carter
Jordan Luck
Iva Lamkum
Paul McLaney
Jamie McDell
