Peanut Butter Wolf Heads To New Zealand For Two Shows

Peanut Butter Wolf Heads To New Zealand For Two Shows

Monday 9th June, 2014 9:19AM

Stones Throw stalwart Peanut Butter Wolf has announced he will be returning to New Zealand for two shows in July. PB Wolf kicked off his hip hop career in the early 1990s by teaming up with talented young rapper Charizma, but their time together was sadly cut short when the MC was shot dead in 1993. PB Wolf went on to form the Stones Throw label in 1996, which unveiled the now-classic Big Shots album, recorded by the pair prior to the rapper's death. Since its formation the West Coast label has released records from many idiosyncratic artists including Madlib, Aloe Blacc and Guilty Simpson, gaining it a cult status among underground hip hop fans. Peanut Butter Wolf will heading to the country off the back of the release of Stones Throw documentary Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton, and brings with him a unique performance that blends visual and audio elements to unfold a musical journey through the decades. Here's the dates...

PRESS RELEASE:

ARCADE, MAZDEF AND ROBIN FERNANDO PRESENT PEANUT BUTTER WOLF

Peanut Butter Wolf transforms dance-floors around the world. Holding a reputation as one of hip hop’s best DJ’s and crate-diggers, Wolf is a true visionary in his own right. Arcade, MAZDEF and Robin Fernando are hyped to announce he’ll be heading to New Zealand for two eclectic AV/DJ shows this July off the back of the acclaimed Stones Throw documentary 'Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton.'

Few records labels have the untouchable status enjoyed by West Coast institution Stones Throw, renowned for bringing the likes of Madlib, J Dilla, Aloe Blacc and Madvillian to the world. Peanut Butter Wolf is the genius behind the operation.

Wolf began his musical journey as producer for rap martyr Charizma, creating links in the Detroit, New York and LA rap communities that would catalyse his transformation into a game changing label boss. Over two decades Wolf has cemented his place in the hip hop pantheon while maintaining a grass roots dedication to the indie community and grass roots acts. Having toured with legends such as Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Odd Future and the Beastie Boys befit his status as a key link between hip hop’s past and its future.

Wolf’s live show is a unique blend of audio and visual elements, creating his own take on the grand narrative of modern music and culture; whether it be Frank Zappa, Mr T or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wolf crafts a seamless mix of genre that crosses a broad spectrum of tastes.

Lock in 26 and 27 July to catch Peanut Butter Wolf live in Auckland and Wellington. Tickets will be on sale via Dash Tickets.
