Weekly Round Up: Friday 11th July

Friday 11th July, 2014 2:19PM

A mix-bag of tour announcements got dished out this week. In terms of local acts, the mysterious Yumi Zouma trio (which is not strictly a local group since its members live on different continents) have locked in gigs in Auckland and Wellington next month, before they head off to travel the globe. Also in August, nomadic punks Die! Die! Die! are undertaking an extensive nationwide tour to celebrate the launch of S W I M, their fifth studio album. Looking further afield, the incredible Sharon Jones is returning to these shores with her band the Dap-Kings for one show in September following the release of their album Give The People What They Want earlier this year. And the first roll-out of acts for New Year's festival Northern Bass sees a healthy list of local and international acts joining the two-day event including rapper Pharoah Monche and DJ Vadim.

In release news, Lyttleton-based act Luckless is hitting the road today to mark the unveiling of sophomore album Vindication Blues (read our interview with Ivy Rossiter who helms the ever-evolving project). Crooner Connan Mockasin had the privilege of being covered by Anna Calvi and David Byrne for her EP Strange Weather, which hit the shelves today. In international news, Faith No More let loose some new material for the first time in more than 15 years, while live in concert at Hyde Park. Also breaking a long productivity hiatus is Death From Above 1979, who shared single 'Trainwreck 79' from their new album due out in September.  Interpol has returned with a video for 'All The Rage Back Home' taken from their upcoming album El Pintor (an anagram for Interpol). And finally, British electro-soul collective Jungle have revealed true photos of real band as they release their new album today.

This week's Caught Live is The War On Drugs performing 'Red Eyes' on Letterman, which has been billed as the best performance on the show since Future Islands blew everyone away earlier this year...
