Weekly Round Up: Friday 15th August

Friday 15th August, 2014 4:30PM

This week we were very pleased to announce that Wellington's own sludge metal act Beastwars are teaming up with Virginian stoner-doom group Windhand for a series of shows around the country in October. That same month will Auckland will play host to the first Americana Fest, which has been arranged by the folk down at The Tuning Fork and will see a raft of international and local alt-country musicians performing across two weeks, including Aldous Harding, Marlon Williams, Ryan Bingham, Johnny Fritz, Nikki Lane and Justin Townes Earle. Not content to play just one show, Earle has also booked performances to treat fans in Christchurch and Wellington. In November, American pop punk act Jimmy Eat World is heading over to play one show in Auckland to the celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their album Futures. Australian rockers Hunters & Collectors have announced a special sideshow while they are in the country to support The Rolling Stones in November. And finally, after playing at the Big Day Out earlier this year, The 1975 is heading back to these shores in January to play an all-ages show at the Logan Campbell Centre.

In other news, Tauranga trio Super Narco Man shared the kickass track 'Three Eyed Blues', which is the first single from their debut album coming out soon via Savant Garde records. Experimental rock duo Into Orbit from Wellington have shared their impressive debut album Caverns, which took more than a year to get down to tape (stream it over here). Overseas, Ty Segall released the first single, titled 'Susie Thumb', from his forthcoming album Manipulator. The mysterious group Goat also let loose a new track from their sophomore record due out next month. Actor Michael Cera surprised everybody by releasing a folksy home-recorded album for streaming on his Bandcamp. Lastly, Liz Harris aka Grouper has announced a new album titled Ruins, which will be out at the end of October via Kranky.

This week's Caught Live is Connan Mockasin and friends doing a fantastically strained cover of 'Nothing Compares 2U' on a rooftop. So good...
