Weekly Round Up: Friday 19th September

Weekly Round Up: Friday 19th September

Friday 19th September, 2014 4:31PM

The most popular tour new this week was without a doubt is the return of Westfest in 2015. The announcement came with the first line up reveal, which includes Faith No More, Soundgarden, Judas Priest, All Time Low, Lagwagon, The Wonder Years and Crown the Empire. There are more acts to be announced, but it's hard to see how they could possibly top that. Also from abroad, Aussie rocker Jimmy Barnes will be heading to New Zealand for four shows in November to celebrate his 30th year Barnestorming. From the Netherlands, "poop rockers" Sweat Tongue will be hitting these shores next month for two shows across Wellington and Auckland. In terms of locally-bred action, Electric Wire Hustle are taking a pause of their busy international touring schedule for two shows on their hometurf in October. Wellington prog-rockers Into Orbit are traversing the North Island in November to promote the launch of their debut album Caverns. And in December The Datsuns will be coming together from their various homes across the globe for four New Zealand shows to celebrate the release of new record Deep Sleep.

In release news, local pop-punk outfit Kitsch have shared new single 'Mouse Mouth' ahead of the release of forthcoming album Plastic Lives, later this year. Emily Edrosa (aka Emily Littler from Street Chant) has unveiled beautiful bedroom-recorded single 'Animal', in anticipation of the release of a new EP in October. Our Geelong neighbours, Ausmuteants shared the single 'Boiling Point' from their upcoming album Out of Operation that will be out next month through Goner Records. Rapper Killer Mike and production wizard EL-P, aka Run The Jewels, shared bass-heavy new cut 'Oh My Darling Don't Cry' from their upcoming sophomore album RTJ2, which may also be re-made using nothing but cat sounds for music thanks to Kickstarter. And (arguably) best for last, Fugazi have announced they are going to release their original demo tape, made 26 years ago. Aptly titled First Demo, the record is set for release at some stage later this year.

This week's Caught Live is the legendary Godmother of Punk, Patti Smith, giving an impassioned reminder that 'People Have The Power' at Riot Fest Chicago... pretty apt timing given the New Zealand election is tomorrow. Don't forget to vote!
