Weekly Round Up: Friday 14th November

Friday 14th November, 2014 2:19PM

In tour news this week, we were very excited to announce that Dinosaur Jr frontman J Mascis is heading to New Zealand for three shows in March.  Eighties romance-wave icons Spandau Ballet will be in Auckland for a one-off concert in May. Unorthodox pop artist G.T Arpe from the States (by way of Seoul) has a bunch of dates around the country over the next few months. Los Angeles act Trapsps have planned an extensive tour of New Zealand starting at Auckland's Kings Arms in mid-December. Diploid from Melbourne are bringing their grindcore/black metal/screamo sounds to these shores for a series of shows over the next few weeks. Closer to home, Andrew Fagan and The People are embarking on a nationwide tour throughout summer. And French For Rabbits will be hopping around the country for a string of performances to celebrate the release of debut album Spirits.

In local release news, Coco Solid shared new gender-challenging jam 'Heaven's Gate', which hopefully signals a forthcoming longer release from the talented rapper. Christchurch "uneasy listening" outfit The Dance Asthmatics unleashed dizzying new single 'Liquid Lunch' from their new EP due to drop soon. A fresh clip from raucous Auckland trio Caroles was unveiled for their slow-burning single 'Let Me Up'. And She's So Rad let loose their new single 'Cool It' as a sample of things to come for their sophomore record Tango, out next year. In overseas news, English producer Mark Ronson enlisted the vocals of Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker for a truly funked-out summer jam written by prize-winning author Michael Chabon. And finally, after a little band-rearranging Gang of Four have announced a new album for February, titled What Happens Next? the record will feature a number of guest vocalists and musicians.

This week's Caught Live is whiskey-swilling local Will Wood, who is currently on tour in Europe, covering "Dead Flowers' in what is evidently an intimate basement show in Winterthur...
