Queensbridge rapper Nas played three sellout shows over the weekend, dazzling audiences in Auckland on Friday and Saturday nights, before heading down to Wellington for a Sunday evening performance. The hip hop icon was in the country for his first ever solo headline shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his seminal debut album Illmatic, which he released in his early 20s. With plenty of charm and verbal gratitude for his fans, Nas took the crowds for a trip down memory lane working through the whole 40-minute album in well-orchestrated and bass-heavy sets with DJ Green Lantern on the decks, and then threw in a few hits from subsequent albums to round out the shows.
