Weekly Round Up: Friday 22nd May

Friday 22nd May, 2015 3:23PM

This week in tour news we had Canadian hardcore outfit SNFU announcing their first New Zealand shows since 1996 in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their debut album ...And No One Else Wanted To Play. Chris Cornell of Soundgarden has revealed three-dates for an acoustic tour of the country in November to coincide with the release of his fifth solo album. Also in November, British art-rock outfit 10cc have planned a whirlwind tour of the North Island. A little closer to home, Australian hardcore acts Disparo and Wounded Pig will be doing the rounds with Auckland group Graves during July. And post-punk foursome HDSPNS announced an eight show tour that will kick off mid-June to support the release of their debut album.

In release news, things were quite busy on the local front. Post-punk duo Astro Children from Dunedin shared the lead single from their upcoming EP Plain and Fancy Killings, out soon via Muzai Records. Also coming out of Dunedin, The Shifting Sands revealed a crafty new video for 'All The Stars' taken from their upcoming sophomore album Cosmic Radio Station, out later this year. The Phoenix Foundation unveiled an excellent psychedelic/afro-kraut offering titled 'Mountain' as a sign of things to come with sixth record Give Up Your Dreams. The PCP Eagles also shook loose a new cut titled 'The Ballad Of Stuart Young' as a raucous homage to their drummer. And in overseas news, we were stoked to hear that NYC duo Ratatat have announced new album Magnifique due out in July.

This week's Caught Live is this inimitable Tom Waits performing new song 'Take One Last Look' on Letterman...
