The big guns of big band are here! The best of the 30s greats - think Glen Miller and Benny Goodman - through to the kings of modern swing; Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble. The The Royal New Zealand Air Force Band is the largest and only full symphonic band in the country.

The RNZAF Band is a 65 member symphonic band based in Wellington. Formed in 1935, the band
made its first public appearance in May 1937 leading a procession through Wellington marking the
coronation of King George VI. Among its ranks are working professionals, freelance musicians and
students studying at the New Zealand School of Music. The RNZAF Band primarily provides
ceremonial support to the NZDF and the New Zealand Government as well as performing at balls,
public concerts and many other events through out New Zealand.

The RNZAF Jazz Orchestra is made up of personnel from within the larger symphonic band, and
boasts some of New Zealand’s finest jazz musicians. Featuring CPL Alexis French, LAC Lance Philip
and LAC Nils Olsen, as well as many other exciting musicians. This concert will feature the music of
Duke Ellington, including a selection from his transcendent arrangement of the Nutcracker Suite.
