About The Mint Chicks from Auckland
Since storming onto the New Zealand rock scene a year ago, these four young men have already made enough noise for the White Stripes to invite them on a tour of Australia before they had even released a record.
Not that the group’s appetite for live work was ever in question. The Mint Chicks have been caught playing up to three shows in one night - and delivering the goods every time. Their angular post-punk bites at the heels of the recent garage rock revival Downunder, but references Fugazi and the Buzzcocks rather than AC/DC. [official]
The Mint Chicks live shows spark enough frenetic energy to channel the spirit of Ian Curtis through frontman Kody Nielson. It’s a thrilling experience that fans of International Noise Conspiracy and At The Drive-In will be familiar with. In October, Jack White's Third Man label joined with legendary New Zealand label Flying Nun to release a blue vinyl 7” single for the White Stripes Australian and NZ tour featuring the Mint Chicks 'Blue Team Go' and fellow tour support act Whirlwind Heat's 'Blue'. Last seen on Ebay for $60, this already sold-out gem has put the Mint Chicks well and truly on the radar.
